The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an \(H_2\) guaranteed cost output feedback control for linear discrete uncertain systems with norm bounded type uncertainty. The conditions consist in a set of linear matrix inequalities. The solution of the problem involves a search over the parameter space, which is shown, by means of an example, not to be a great limitation.
