The authors consider a fluid buffer which is filled at a constant rate when an associated M/M/1/N queueing system is empty, and depleted when there are customers in the queue. By exploiting some identities for tridiagonal determinants they obtain the stationary joint distribution of buffer content and number of customers in the queue for some special values of filling and depletion rates.
