The authors provide a careful, detailed and clear description of Vincent's Theorem, its precursor and associated results, beginning from Descartes' rule of signs. This charming and instructive paper also provides extensive historical information. In the Addendum an earlier paper of \textit{A. M. Ostrowski} [Ann. Math. (2) 52, 702-707 (1950; Zbl 0039.01202)] is mentioned.
