Radiation states and the problem of energy in general relativity (Q1596239)

In the first part of this paper the author examines 4 papers by \textit{A. Matte} [Can. J. Math. 5, 1-16 (1953; Zbl 0050.21504)], \textit{F. Pirani} [Phys. Rev. 105, 1089-1099 (1957; Zbl 0077.41901)], \textit{J. Synge} [Proc. R. Ir. Acad., Sect. A 59, 1-13 (1957; Zbl 0082.21201)] and \textit{A. Lichnerowicz} [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl. 50, 1-15 (1960; Zbl 0098.19301)], which examine and develop the problem of gravitational radiation (including a discussion of its existence). In the second part of the paper the different points of view are integrated into a fairly consistent discussion. In particular, he gives a definition of gravitational radiation consistent with the ideas in the earlier papers.
