The author explains the linear and nonlinear dynamics of parametric systems by applying normal form techniques and bifurcation results. Illustrations in rotor dynamics, autoparametric resonance of a parametric oscillator and autoparametric resonance of a self-excited oscillator are provided showing the role of bifurcation, symmetry and attraction to limit sets in the analysis.
