The author argues, that the old inflationary cosmology with the inclusion of a minimally coupled scalar field does not fit to observations, he writes that the non-minimal coupling term \(\xi R \phi^2/2\) is ``generally unavoidable''. In fact, with his additional parameter \(\xi\) he has got one more free parameter to adjust with the observations. In section 2, he calculates both bare and effective values of \(\xi\), the difference between both is proportional to the parameter \(\lambda\) of the quartic self-interaction of \(\phi\). Section 3 deals with conditions for inflation and the effective equation of state. Section 4 is on the slow-roll condition which is responsible for the duration of the inflationary phase. Section 5 discusses perturbations including those of gravitational wave type, and section 6 deals with open problems including the cosmic no hair theorem.
