The authors investigate the in-plane buckling of circular arches with an arbitrary cross-section subjected to a radial load uniformly distributed around the arch axis. For shallow arches, the nonlinear equilibrium equations and buckling equilibrium equations are derived by energy method, and their analytical solutions are obtained. Comparisons with finite element results are given.
