The main aim of this paper is to give different and independent proofs for some of the results in the author's previous article [J. Number Theory 84, 258-275 (2000; Zbl 0973.11099)]. Since, as far as the results themselves are concerned, both papers have a big overlap, we refer to the review of the first one for a description of the somewhat technical content.
