The authors study the two-dimensional Toda system with certain skew-symmetric initial condition. Restricting this system to the locus \(s=-t\) of the space of time variables, they obtain another hierarchy called Pfaff lattice, which has its own \(\tau\)-function. The bilinear and Fay identities for the \(\tau\)-function, \(W\) and Virasoro symmetries and quasiperiodic solutions are also studied.
