Extensions and the irreducibilities of induced characters of some 2-groups (Q1599799)

The most general purpose of the work under consideration is the following. Given a 2-group \(G\) with some \(H\leq G\), \(H\neq G\), such that any induced character \(\varphi^G\) is irreducible, whenever \(\varphi\) is a faithful irreducible character of that subgroup \(H\). If \(H\) is a generalized quaternion group, or a dihedral group, or a semidihedral group, determine the structure of \(G\). In this paper the full answer is obtained. The list of such groups \(G\) is too long to mention here. As such, it generalizes in full, work of \textit{Y. Iida} and \textit{T. Yamada} [SUT J. Math. 27, No. 2, 237--262 (1991; Zbl 0804.20004) and ibid. 28, No. 1, 23--46 (1992; Zbl 0805.20006)], and of \textit{K. Sekiguchi} [Osaka J. Math. 37, No. 4, 773--788 (2000; Zbl 0989.20010)], and of \textit{Y. Iida} [not yet published].
