The author shows that the example given by \textit{Y. Dai} and \textit{Y. Yuan} [ibid. 83, No. 4, 581-598 (1999; Zbl 0949.65065)] does not contradict his results [IMA. J. Numer. Anal. 14, No. 4, 443-460 (1994; Zbl 0830.65052)]. This reviewer is not able to understand the arguments given in the present paper and believes that the explanation given by \textit{Y. Dai} and \textit{Y. Yuan} [loc. cit.] is precisely correct.
