Finite-difference methods for systems of differential equations occurring in models of volume free electron lasers (VFEL) are studied and developed. The concept of VFEL, based on the quasi-Cherenkov radiation, was suggested for the first time for the X-ray range and was then developed for other spectral ranges. The linear mode of VFEL was analyzed, but it does not allow to consider saturation modes. The nonlinear stage of the VFEL operation can be considered only by means of the finite-difference methods, since it is impossible to find the solutions of the systems of equations governing the nonlinear operation mode in a closed form. This kind of modeling was performed for the X-ray range and for the optical range. In the present paper, finite-difference methods are investigated for modeling VFEL in the submillimeter range.
