In the paper a minimally coupled scalar field with a self-interacting potential together with a matter fluid having a dissipative pressure is considered. Unlike other works in scalar field cosmology with a dissipative pressure the authors have neither assumed the behavior of the scale factor nor have assumed any specific form of the potential. Rather all the variables in terms of what is called the ``generating function'' are expressed. A particular choice of the generating function is proceeded for which the potential is constructed using a combination of different power-law functions of scalar field. From the behavior of decelerating parameter it has been shown that one can indeed generate both the decelerating phase in the early time and also a late time accelerating phase. Also the stability and attractor structure of the general solutions of the field equations with this kind of potential is investigated and is found that for certain choices of the constants the solutions indeed exhibit attractor behavior in the late time.
