A free boundary problem for the Euler equations is examined which arises in the study of inviscid steady supersonic flow past a symmetric curved cone. It is proved that piecewise smooth weak entropy solutions exist and are stable when the cone is a small perturbation of the tangential cone with the angle at its vertex less than an angle determined by the parameters describing the incident flow.
