Starting with the Maxwell equations for complex amplitudes of the time-harmonic electromagnetic field, the author first derives a pair of equations which is the quaternionic reformulation of the Maxwell equations for inhomogeneous media. This is used in the static case \((\omega= 0)\) in order to obtain new solutions by utilizing relations to solutions of the Schrödinger equation.
