The paper is devoted to a spectral scheme for solving the unstable Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. Numerical solutions are compared with exact one- and two-soliton localized solutions. Various interactions between plane normal solitons and rational solitons are studied. Stability issues are discussed, and a comparison with analogous solutions to the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation is made.
