The authors investigate the transition from modulational to spatiotemporally chaotic dynamics of a high-frequency continuous field governed by a nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation. They discuss the approximated model from the point of view of a nonadiabatic and low-dimensional nonlinear dynamics and compare the results with full spatiotemporal simulations.
