A characterization of 2D linear systems with kernel representation that admit a state/driving-variable (SDV) representation based on a Fornasini-Marchesini model is proposed. The characterization is based on the possibility of decomposing a behaviour \(B\) as the sum of its controllable part with a suitable autonomous one. It is shown that \(B\) has a SDV representation if and only if it allows for a controllable-autonomous decomposition where that autonomous part is SDV representable.
