A combination of boundary elements and finite elements for solving nonhomogeneous half-space problems is presented. A power-law variation of Young's modulus with depth is introduced in the BEM formulation, while in FEM a modelling of surface foundation is included. The inherent integration difficulty in the BEM approach is discussed in detail, and examples demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed numerical strategies.
