The authors present a complete study on the mean value solutions for the Helmholtz equation on square grids using a five point finite difference formula with improve accuracy. The homogeneous and non-homogeneous parts are evaluated in separate expressions and the precision error yielded is of order \(O(h^2)\). Numerical experiments are performed for comparison and illustration.
