\textit{D. Aldous} [Ann. Probab. 22, 527-545 (1994; Zbl 0808.60017)] used Brownian excursions, recursive self-similarity, and the invariance principle to study problems about the centroid in random trees from certain families of weighted rooted trees. This paper studies the same problems with a more elementary, combinatorial approach.
