The authors study the bankruptcy rule of bankruptcy problems, which yields the population monotonic allocation scheme of the associated game. They propose the thieve property which requires that if a claimant manages to escape with his claim, the amount allocated to each remaining claimant is not larger than his share in the original game. Then they use the thieve property to axiomatize the bankruptcy rule.
