The authors explain the occurence of oscillations in high performance AC drives by providing a Hopf bifurcation analysis of the corresponding models. They prove the existence of Hopf bifurcations for suitable parameters and illustrate their findings by numerical simulations. In addition, they perform a non-local analysis of the model by means of the harmonic balance method.
