The authors propose a balanced and unbalanced generalization for the decomposition of Pearson's matrix of standardised residuals. Such algebraic generalization enables an efficient methodology for visualising categorical variables. For more details on correspondence analysis and its variants, the reader may be referred to the authors' book [Correspondence analysis. Theory, practice and new strategies. Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley \& Sons (2014; Zbl 1304.62001)].
