Given a square matrix \(A\) of order \(n\) (with real or complex entries), a matrix \(G\) with the same order as \(A\) is called a \textit{core-EP inverse} of \(A\) if \(GAG=G\) and has the property that the column space and the row space of \(G\) are the same as the column space of \(A^d\), for some positive integer \(d\). Using the classical bordering technique, the authors describe a procedure to obtain the core-EP inverse of a given matrix. As an application, they show how to obtain the Drazin index of a matrix.
