Extending the Kauffman and Jones polynomials to new invariants for tied links, this paper shows them to be more powerful than others when evaluated on classical links and proposes a new algebra that plays, for tied links, the same role as the BMW algebra does for the Kauffman polynomial in the classical case, proving also that its Markov trace is recoverable from this new extension of Kauffman's polynomial. An obvious typo on page 568 is corrected in the immediately following sentence and numerous well-illustrated examples demonstrating the power of these new invariants are provided.
