Approximations to time-optimal boundary controls for weak generalized solutions of the wave equation (Q1682904)

The authors consider time-optimal control problems for the wave equation with two-sided boundary controls in classes of weak generalized solutions. The aim is to drive the system to a given fixed terminal state in the shortest time. By modifying algorithms proposed by themselves in an earlier work [Proc. Steklov Inst. Math. 291, 102--117 (2015; Zbl 1342.35419); translation from Tr. Mat. Inst. Steklova 291, 112--127 (2015)] for the case of stronger generalized solutions, they develop stable algorithms for computing optimal times and optimal boundary controls. Numerical experiments are also presented.
