The authors study a general averaging scheme for discrete equations with variable delay. They investigate the system of the following general form \[ x_{i+1}=x_{i}+\epsilon f(i,x_{i},x_{s(i)}),\;x_{0}=x^{0}. \] The authors study the closeness of the solutions on a finite asymptotically large interval of discrete time. A numerical example is given to illustrate the theory discussed.
