The authors show that the first group of rational cohomology of hyperbolic (compact) 7-dimensional manifolds associated with congruence subgroups of \(\mathrm{SO}(8)\) is always trivial. The result was announced in [the authors, Invent. Math. 192, No. 3, 505--532 (2013; Zbl 1309.22014)].
