\textit{R. Forman} [Adv. Math. 134, No. 1, 90--145 (1998; Zbl 0896.57023)] introduced combinatorial vector fields and developed an adapted form of Morse theory for this setting. Here the ideas of Forman are combined with concepts from topological dynamics to obtain algorithmic approaches to dynamical systems that are only observed through a finite set of samples.
