The present paper gives a historical overview of the development of the main Scandinavian mathematical journals. The starting point is the year 1859 when Mathematisk Tidsskrift, the first Scandinavian journal specializing in mathematics, was founded. The next 100 years in the life of Scandinavian mathematical journals became quite eventful since many new journals started and also merged. This evolution is surveyed by the author in great details. The study ends in the year 1953, when the today still existing two nordic journals Mathematica Scandinavica and Nordisk Matematisk Tidsskrift were launched.
