The authors consider a hyperbolic system in three spatial dimensions, which describes incompressible liquid crystal flow and is a special case of the Ericksen-Leslie model. In the low-density limit the system is reduced to a parabolic one. The authors construct initial data in a special way to avoid boundary layers and show that the asymptotic low-density behaviour follows this parabolic simplification.
