The author performs a mathematical analysis of the static configurations for a system of identical point-charges in presence of an external electric field. He shows that the considered two-dimensional Coulomb gas exhibits a particle separation phenomenon which, depending on plasma temperature, resembles the conjectural Abrikosov lattice structure.
