Solutions of the Fermat equation defined over \({\mathbb Q}(\sqrt2)\) are studied. A version of Fermat's Last Theorem over \({\mathbb Q}(\sqrt2)\) is proved assuming an unpublished result of K. Fujiwara (1999). The points on the Fermat equation over \({\mathbb Q}(\sqrt2)\) are classified: first for `large' exponents; then for `small' exponents. Also, a general discussion over general quadratic fields is presented.
