As the main result, the author shows that the Vandermonde matrix \(V_n\) can be factorized into \(n\) \(1\)-lower banded matrices and \(n\) \(1\)-upper banded matrices. The proof is short and uses symmetric functions and \(LU\) factorization. The theorem is a modification of a result by \textit{H. Oruç} and \textit{G. M. Phillips} [Linear Algebra Appl. 315, 113--123 (2000; Zbl 0959.15011)].
