The \(n\)-widths of classes of real-valued functions on \({\mathbb R}^d\) cannot be reasonably defined in the standard way, since typical approximation spaces (for example, splines on \({\mathbb R}^d\)) are usually infinite-dimensional. As an alternative, one can define \(n\) to be the average dimension, per unit of volume, and consider the corresponding average widths [see \textit{G. G. Magaril-Il'yaev}, Mat. Sb. 182, No. 11, 1635--1656 (1991; Zbl 0798.41015)]. In the paper under review, weak asymptotic estimates are given for the average Gelfand and Bernstein widths of anisotropic Besov classes. Similar results for the average Kolmogorov and linear widths were obtained in the author's earlier paper.
