The book describes in details a complete set of best-fit algorithms for general curves and surfaces in space which are used in a current software. In particular it deals with orthogonal distance fitting algorithms for implicit and parametric curves and surfaces in two and three-dimensional spaces. Several algorithmic features are studied: robust and fast convergence, low computing costs, automatic detection of initial parameter values for iterations, estimation of model parameters etc. Application examples of the algorithms are given for object reconstruction.
