The paper deals with a specific conformally invariant generalization of Einstein's theory of gravity. It is shown that the corresponding field equations have solutions which satisfy some unusual features, like discontinuities on space-like hyper-surfaces and the existence of a function of state that is similar to the entropy. Moreover, the author claims that with respect to the field equations the corresponding Cauchy problem can be posed without constraints on the Cauchy data. Also, in this conformally invariant formulation of gravity a conserved vector current naturally appears. The involved vector and scalar fields can be interpreted in terms of spin-1/2 particles. The main motivation of this approach to gravity is to produce new types of solutions.
