The author presents the theory of piecewise-linear coordinates for the space of affine foliations on oriented closed surfaces of genus \(g >1\). Affine foliations are a generalization of measured foliations. He studies the space of affine foliations as defined by \textit{A. Hatcher} and \textit{U. Oertel} [Pac. J. Math. 154, No. 1, 87--101 (1992; Zbl 0772.57032)]. He generalizes some results obtained by W. Thurston for measured foliations.
