The aim of the paper is to establish a relationship between constructions of Lallement sums or Plonka sums of algebras and the construction of a subdirect product of algebras. The representability of algebras as these sums reflects the structure of subdirectly irreducible algebras. Particular attention focuses on the case of modes and barycentric algebras.
