The paper contains the attempt to generalize the most frequently used theorems on the uniqueness of a limit cycle for the Liénard system. Special attention has been paid to eleven propositions which are based on the well-known Zhang theorem. The authors present a new set of theorems that guarantee the uniqueness of a limit cycle, and derive an improved general theorem.
