The author introduces a general notion of the integral by the help of runs. The notion of a run has been defined by \textit{H. Kenyon} and \textit{A. P. Morse} [``Runs'', Pac. J. Math. 8, 811--824 (1958; Zbl 0084.37803)] and it can be considered as an alternative to filters and nets. The obtained results concern with linearity and additivity of the integral.
