The authors discuss the implementation of the basic interval arithmetic operations in IEEE floating-point arithmetic. Special attention is paid to division by an interval containing zero. An original approach is proposed aiming at a closed and exception-free computer interval system. Detailed proofs for the relevant inclusion properties are provided.
