Radial basis functions are used often nowadays when interpolation or approximation in more than one dimension is needed in applications. In his paper, a generalisation of radial basis function approximation is studied in the form of matrix-valued radial basis functions. These are used for interpolation and special attention is given to classes of compactly supported radial basis functions and divergence free radial basis functions. As to their theoretical properties, stability estimates are given. On the other hand, on the application side, using these radial basis functions for solving Navier-Stokes differential equations is suggested and examples are given.
