The author gives necessary conditions for a torsion free sheaf of rank \(2\) with Chern classes \(c_1=c_3=0\) on a smooth threefold \(X\) to be a ``reduced'' limit of vector bundles. The cases in which \(X\) is a quadric or cubic hypersurface in \(\mathbb P^4\) are also given as examples.
