The authors analyze the optimality of the stable fixed-point of the double-bracket equations \[ Y'=[[N,Y],Y],\quad t\geq 0,\quad Y(0)=Y_0, \] where \(Y_0\) and \(N\) are symmetric real \(n\times n\)-matrices. Different types of optimality are introduced and local and global optimality results with respect to Schatten \(p\)-norms are proved.
