Smooth biarc curves (Q1801865)

This paper presents a linearized method for global minimization of the discontinuity in curvatures (a new criterion). The biarc-curve fitting technique applied in NC machining is used to minimize the difference in the curvatures of two adjoining circular arcs. The described algorithm is illustrated by examples and 6 figures. A comparison with other criteria is done. The algorithm leads to a system of linear equations which can be solved directly on an NC machine. The calculations are easier in comparison with other methods.
