It is shown how a local analysis of the dynamical system in terms of so- called current Lyapunov exponents gives necessary conditions for stochastic instability of the system. This approach is applied to two concrete physical systems: the quasiperiodically forced weakly nonlinear oscillator and the quantum magnetometer (SQUID).
