A computational procedure for finding approximations of the discrete spectrum of nonselfadjoint singular spectral problems for the one- dimensional Helmholtz operator with discontinuous coefficients is presented. The algorithm is based on restricting the problem on a finite interval with impedance-type boundary condition on the artificial boundary and on approximating the problem on the finite interval by finite differences. The efficiency of the method is illustrated on a series of ocean acoustics problems.
