This work presents a finite element program for the evaluation of crack- growth in shell structures (part-through cracks): rotational shell elements are used in the axisymmetric region of the shell, while 3-D shell elements are used in the region where deviations are found. The transition between these regions is accomplished by a `transition element'. The other characteristics of the computational system are: line-spring elements, crack simulation in any direction and shape, variable crack depth and mixed mode fracture.
